Winter Series 3 Recap

Doubling Up

As usual, we started things off with our shot put competition. It was a lighter group again, but there was one key difference. Goshen Freshman, Elaina Weiss, got to get a few throws in before coming over to the vault runway. The nice thing about competing for the first time in an event as a high schooler is that any mark will be a PR. Elaina’s furthest throw of the day was actually her second throw, when she threw 25’8.25”. This positive energy carried over into her pole vaulting as she saw similar success.

Lots of PRs

As mentioned, Elaina also jumped a PR in the pole vault, but she was far from the only athlete to do so. We had a whopping 9 PRs on the day! Listed below are all the club members who jumped either a new lifetime PR or Indoor PR:

Loveland MS 8th grader, Emily Deem - 7’8”

Lakota West Freshman, Layla Dangel - 7’8”

Goshen Freshman, Elaina Weiss – 8’8”

Milford Freshman, Jesslyn Roberts – 9’2”

Talawanda Senior, Olivia Andrews – 10’2” (Indoor)

Lebanon Junior, Zach Callahan – 12’2”

Lakota West Senior, Cole Dangel – 13’2” (Indoor)

CCD Freshman, Luke Schnieber – 13’2”

CHCA Junior, Curtis Rempe – 14’2”

This is easily the most PRs in a single meet for QCVA. With his new PR, Curtis Rempe also hit a qualifying height for Adidas Indoor Nationals (AIN). Also jumping an AIN qualifying height was New Richmond Senior, Samantha Ringhand, who jumped 11’2” for a season best. Samantha’s 11’2” bar was enough to place her second on misses in the girls competition behind the current girl's D1 leader, Mirabelle Thornton. Winning on the boy's side was New Richmond Junior, Grant Harrison, with his jump of 15’8”. Harrison has had 3 consecutive meets over 15’ and it was also the highest bar he has jumped at home. Pushing him along the way was Jason Deem who cleared 15’2” and narrowly missed 15’8”. Both boys are showing a lot of consistency over higher bars which will help them as we get closer to Indoor State and Nationals.
